About Envelope Margins and Barcodes

Important! The margins affect the barcode options (barcode if lower-right, FIM Code) and the postage insignia.

You should not usually need to change margins for a mailpiece. Only use the margins option when you are using an unusual mailpiece. The measurements are in inches.

Note: You cannot move the FIM barcode. The FIM barcode location is fixed to follow all US Postal Service guidelines.

You can select three positions for the IMb or IMpb barcodes, but each position is either referenced to the address block or the lower right corner of the mailpiece. The lower right hand corner position has the most exacting USPS tolerances, so you are encouraged to use the “above” or “below” address block positions to ensure you are always within USPS specifications.

Note: Not all layouts have room for all required barcodes. If your layout is too small, use a larger layout.
