About Advanced Dial-A-ZIP Options

Method choices for Dial-A-ZIP include:

• None ...MORE The None option disables any method of US domestic delivery address verification. Dial-A-ZIP is not available when you select None.

• U.S. Postal Service AMS DVD ...MORE If you have the AMS database on DVD, select the U.S. Postal Service AMS DVD option, which contains the national address directory that you install to your hard drive. DAZzle performs all ZIP+4 lookups and US domestic delivery address verifications using the installed database on your hard drive (instead of using the Internet to access Dial-A-ZIP).

• Internet ...MORE The Internet option lets DAZzle access the US Postal Service address database through the Internet. The default web address is www.dial-a-zip.com.
  
  If you use a dial-up service to connect to the Internet, when you run Dial-A-ZIP, DAZzle uses your current connection or automatically initiates a session if you are not connected to the Internet. If DAZzle starts a dial-up session, you must terminate the connection when you have completed all of your Dial-A-ZIP lookups. This may be a concern if you have a timed (pay by the minute) Internet connection.
  
  You can select none, one, or more of the following Internet options:
  
  Keep Alive (for better performance): If you are having performance problems with Dial-A-ZIP, select the Keep Alive option to see if it improves performance. By default, this option is not enabled.
  
  Use SSL Security Encryption: Select this option to create a secure connection so that any data that you send will be protected from hackers or "snoopers" who might be monitoring connections. Use of this option will slightly slow down the processing of your data.
  
  Use XML Protocol: By default, this option is selected. Clear this option only if you are using a legacy system that requires the XML Protocol option to be turned off.

When running Dial-A-ZIP, you can have one of the following update options:

• Standardize Addresses ...MORE
  When DAZzle standardizes your US domestic delivery address, DAZzle updates the last two lines of the address to match the US Postal Service version of the same address. If Dial-A-ZIP can successfully find a match for your address, only the last two lines of your address are corrected.
  
  It is highly recommended to submit addresses in the following format:
  
  Full Name
  Company
  Street Address + Ste/Apt
  City, State, ZIP
  
  The US Postal Service version of your US domestic delivery address may not have the same appearance as what you have. Street types are abbreviated and apartment and suite numbers are placed at the end of the second to last line. You can alter the resulting address, but be careful not to deviate too much from the US Postal Service version or you might make your envelope undeliverable.

• Add Only ZIP+4 to Addresses ...MORE
  If you select the Add Only ZIP+4 to Address option, Dial-A-ZIP automatically adds the ZIP+4 to your US domestic delivery address, but nothing is changed.

The Fast Mode increases the speed of processing lists while still displaying some US domestic delivery addresses in the status window. The Fast Mode option causes the displayed information to be updated in the status window every five seconds rather than with each address. Otherwise, the time required to update the displayed information for each and every US domestic delivery address can cause a slowing in the overall performance of the look-up process.

The Silent Mode is often the fastest and easiest mode to operate Dial-A-ZIP for single US domestic delivery address verifications. The Silent Mode option causes the status window not to appear, unless an error occurs, while the DAZzle automatically updates the US domestic delivery address on your envelope or label. Silent mode does not apply to list processing.

The transaction log file is a record of every activity that occurs during a Dial-A-ZIP session. The log file is primarily a diagnostic tool if you are working with technical support to solve a problem with Dial-A-ZIP. The log filename is DAZ.LOG and is in the Microsoft Windows system directory, such as \windows\system.

• Important! Because the log file can grow in size rapidly, you should deactivate (clear) the Create Transaction Log option when you have ended the troubleshooting.
