Troubleshoot Printing

For each layout, you must enable postage printing.

Verify the settings in the Printer Setup dialog box (select File > Printer Setup). For more information, see About Printer Setup.

For more information, refer to the printer documentation or the printer manufacturer.

For those whose service plans include the high-speed printing option, fonts, font styles, and effects are not available. For more information, see Printing Speed.

If not, try an address block barcode if you had been printing it in the lower-right corner. For more information, see About Printer Setup and About Barcodes.

All laser printers have an unprintable area near the edge of the paper or envelope. The closer the print is to the edge of the envelope, the more likely it is that you will have trouble.

When feeding envelopes and labels, use the following rules:

• Always use the straightest path possible for the mailpieces. Any turn might wrinkle or crease your envelope.
• Use the thinnest possible envelopes.
• The smoother the paper surface, the better the print quality will be.
• Use laser printer style envelopes that have special adhesive that does not melt or seal the envelope shut. They also have low moisture content, which prevents curling.
• Do not use sheets of labels that have exposed edges. The adhesive can melt and seep from under the labels and can jam the printer. Eventually, your printer may lock up or experience paper jams.

The envelope feeding options for dot matrix and inkjet printers are sometimes awkward. Practice is usually the best way to find what works best with your printer. These printers usually do not print well at the bottom of envelopes or labels because the media slips as it comes out of the rollers. Because of this, the placement of images, text, or barcodes in the lower right-hand corner is not recommended.
