Electronic Collect on Delivery (COD) Option Now Available

Endicia Customer Email NewsletterDo you need to offer your customers a payment option other than a credit card? With Endicia’s new Collect on Delivery (COD) feature, you can generate the necessary COD forms as a part of your shipping process, to allow your customers to pay with cash, check or money order at the time their package is delivered by their letter carrier.

By using the Electronic COD feature from Endicia you’ll benefit from:

  • Happier Customers
    • Offer another form of payment to your customers than just credit cards. Customers can choose to pay with cash, check, or money order at the time of delivery.
    • Pair with the Hold for Pickup service so customers have the option to not only pay for, but also pick up the item at their local post office.
  • Convenience
    • Complete COD forms quickly and easily as part of your normal shipping process. All required forms are printed along with your Endicia shipping label, there’s no separate application or website to access.
    • A return shipping label is also printed for funds to be sent back to you.
  • Saving Time
    • No more completing COD forms PS 3816 and PS 3877 by hand, now Endicia’s electronic COD feature allows you to prefill and print all necessary forms.
    • Traditionally you would need to wait in line at the Post Office to get proof of induction, but with Endicia’s electronic COD you can drop your package off at the Post Office or send it with your regular carrier pickup.*

This new service is available in Endicia Professional and Endicia Label Server plans. To use the service:

  1. Select the COD extra service
  2. Enter the amount to be collected
  3. Select if you would like to add the postage to the amount to be collected
  4. Designate if you want to have the COD funds sent to an alternate address other than the return address, such as your accounting department.

Your Endicia software will print a standard shipping label plus PS Form 3816 on 6x4 labels. PS Form 3816 is a multipart label that shows the COD amount to collect and provides a return shipping label for the funds to be sent back to you.

If you process multiple COD shipments, your Endicia software will also print PS Form 3877, also called a firmbook, which lists all COD shipment values and other details necessary for proof of acceptance by the USPS. This service is also available with the Hold for Pickup service, so your customer can pay for and pick up the item at their local post office.

* As of Jan. 2014 the USPS is accepting claims to be supported with a tracking scan of your Endicia shipping label, however some Post Offices may not be eligible yet. Check with your local postmaster to find out if your local Post Office is eligible.
