About the Hold For Pickup Service

Use the Hold For Pickup service allows the recipient of your shipment to pick up pick up the shipment at the designated Post Office. You might use the Hold For Pickup service for sending valuable or perishable merchandise, for example.

The Hold For Pickup service requires the recipient's email address or a phone number that can receive text messages (SMS) for notification purposes. After you have opened a Hold For Pickup layout, you can specify the recipient's contact information on the Postage Options > Hold For Pickup tab.

When you enter the recipient's name and address on the layout, the pickup location of the USPS Post Office is automatically determined for you, which is usually the closest Post Office in your service delivery area. You cannot specify a different pickup location.

To use the Hold For Pickup service, you must also use at least one of the following:

USPS Tracking. USPS Tracking is included at no additional charge for all domestic package mail classes except Marketing Mail.
Signature Confirmation
USPS Insurance with at least $200 in declared value

You can use the Hold for Pickup Label.lyt layout file for any mail class. (As of April 2015, you no longer need to use a different layout file for Priority Mail Express.)
