About Printing Postage onto Shipping Labels and Envelopes

To place labels with postage on standard business-size envelopes (or smaller), the US Postal Service requires labels with special fluorescent ink that can be sensed by their sorting machines. Alternately, you can print the com10 label layout directly onto a standard business-size (Commercial 10) envelope, or you can print postage stamp labels using DYMO Printable Postage, which prints only postage stamp labels onto DYMO LabelWriter printers.

The postage indicium contains coded information of the delivery address. US Postal Service requirements specify that the postage must match the delivery address. If you are printing postage on a label, make sure you add the delivery address before printing.

You can print shipping labels for packages and large envelopes provided that you print both the delivery address and the postage on the label together.

To ensure the label can be read, the US Postal Service has the following requirements:

• Do not place tape or plastic wrap over any printed areas of the shipping label.
• Do not wrap shipping labels around any edge of the shipping container.

The minimum label size that fits a postage insignia is 3 inches high by 3 1/2 inches wide. You can use sheet labels as long as the labels are large enough. This usually limits sheets to six (6) labels per page or fewer. For more information, see About the Corrections Tab.
